Telangana youth's suicide: TRS to approach NHRC

July 22, 2011 14:10 IST

Claiming that the Andhra Pradesh government insulted the youth from Telangana who allegedly committed suicide in Delhi over the separate statehood cause, Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Friday said it will complain about the matter to the National Human Rights Commission.

"The martyr Yadi Reddy was insulted as his 'antima yatra' (last journey) was not allowed to be conducted in Hyderabad. Media persons and common people were arrested (when the body arrived at the airport). The behaviour of officials of Andhra Bhavan in Delhi also amounted to insulting him. We will complain to the National Human Rights Commission over this," TRS MLA and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao's son K T Rama Rao told mediapersons in Hyderabad.

Expressing regret over the attack on an official of Andhra Bhavan by TRS MLA T Harish Rao on Thursday, he said the incident need not be exaggerated as it occurred out of anger and anguish.

"Yesterday's incident was unfortunate. Harish Rao has expressed regrets. We appeal to people and media not to look at the incident through a magnifying glass," he said.

Rama Rao alleged that the state government behaved in a biased manner by not taking cognisance of the "provocative statements" made by a state minister and a TDP MLA from non- Telangana regions.

"State minister T G Venkatesh has said he will raise an army. TDP MLA P Keshav said he will resort to suicide attacks. You don't take cognisance of that. It took three days for the Chief Minister to condole the death of Yadi Reddy. But he sought a report on the Andhra Bhavan incident in three minutes. But the TRS leaders are slapped with cases in Delhi. Why these double standards?," he said.

Taking exception to the attitude of Andhra Bhavan officials, Rama Rao distributed a letter purportedly written by them to the Station House Officer of Parliament Street police station in Delhi, stating that the body be taken to a crematorium.
