TN rivers to be linked by next 8 years

All rivers in Tamil Nadu will be linked in next eight years, a top Public Works Department official has said.

Three major projects to link rivers in Tamil Nadu will be completed in next five years. As part of the first project, the Tamirabharani, the Nambiyaru and the Karimeniyaru rivers will be linked.

Linking of the Cauvery, the Kundaru and the Vaigai would be undertaken in the second project while that of the Seyyaru and the Palaru in the third project, PWD secretary S Ramasundaram said.

Besides, linking of all rivers in the state would take an additional three years, Ramasundaram told reporters after chairing a meeting with Collectors of Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts on sharing of water of the Vaigai river and the Krithumal canal.
