India's old Pakistan-hand T C A Raghavan, currently country's top envoy in Singapore, has been appointed as the new high commissioner in Islamabad.

A 1982-batch IFS officer, Raghavan, who earlier served as deputy high commissioner in Islamabad 10 years ago, will replace Sharat Sabharwal, who would be returning this month end from Islamabad.

Sabharwal, who spent more than four years in Islamabad, has attained superannuation last year but was asked to continue by New Delhi till Pakistan elections.

A ministry of external affairs release on Thursday said Raghavan is expected to take up his assignment shortly.

Prior to appointment as high commissioner to Singapore, Raghavan was head of the division dealing with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran in MEA.

Apart from his stint as deputy high commissioner in Islamabad (2003-2007), his previous overseas postings include United Kingdom (1995-1998), Bhutan (1992-1995) and Kuwait (1983-1986).

Meanwhile, Raghavan will be replaced by Vijay Thakur Singh in Singapore. She is currently with the president's secretariat.
