Punjab Congress today termed Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's allegations that it was scuttling central grants to derail the development campaign of SAD-BJP government, as "ridiculous" and "baseless".

"Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal's allegations are ridiculous and baseless. When he has no issue to report, he always blames Congress falsely," Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rana Gurjeet Singh said here after a meeting to discuss upcoming local body polls.

Singh said his party would welcome any development schemes put forth by Badal or the ruling coalition and would work to get them approved from the Centre.

"If Badal or the ruling coalition government comes to our party with any development schemes, we will support them and ensure that they are approved by the Centre," he said.

He said the state government was making such allegations against Congress to hide its own failures and that money allotted by the Centre is never used properly.

Badal had yesterday said the Punjab Congress unit had spent last five years in scuttling central grants, development package for the state with the hope that they would be able to derail the accelerated development campaign of SAD-BJP government.

He was speaking at a function appointing famous Punjabi folk singer and film artist Harbhajan Mann as new Chairman of District Planning Committee.
