Student from Andhra Pradesh murdered in UK

In yet another instance of campus killing of an Indian student abroad, a 23-year-old Indian postgraduate girl from Vijawada was found dead at her hostel in Handsworth, a suburb of Birmingham, on Tuesday night.
 
V Jyotirmayee Nagasaibabu, a student pursuing MS degree in Health Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton, was found dead in her hostel room, police said.
 
According to official sources, Nagasaibabu was in the hostel along with four other Telugu-speaking students, shortly before her death.

One person was arrested in connection with Jyotirmayee's murder.

The West Midlands Police spokesman told PTI that the unidentified arrested man, 24, was arrested on suspicion of her murder. He added that the man was currently helping police with their enquiries.

A post mortem examination on Jyotirmayee's body established that she died as a result of head injuries.
 
A man with serious injuries was also found when the police were called last evening. He is said to be in a stable condition in a hospital.
 
The cause of Nagasaibabu's death or injuries to the man has not been revealed but the police have initiated house-to-house inquiries at the scene.
 
The West Midlands police said that forensic tests were being carried out at the premises and a post-mortem would be carried out on the body later.
 
A senior of Jyotirmayi called up in the early hours and informed the police about the tragedy. Another roommate of Jyotirmayi's was also found in an unconscious state.
 
Lal Miah, whose mother lives next door to the house where Jyotirmayee stayed, told newspersons, "From what I've heard, it sounds like it was a fight between two persons.
 
"The ambulance came and took one person away but we heard that one was still in there and it was a woman who had died", he said.
 
"We couldn't believe it really. I didn't know the people who were there. I heard they were foreigners and there were a total of four of them living there", he added.
 
Another man, Moses Khan, who lives across the road, said, "From what I've been told, there were four of them living there but there were only two persons in at the time and it was some kind of stabbing."
 
Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma has written to the Indian High Commission in London and also the Consular General in Birmingham, to extend all possible help to find out the cause behind the assault on Jyotirmayee.
