Curfew in Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune was lifted on Friday. Violence rocked the industrial township on Wednesday over the alleged vandaliszing of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur.

Curfew was lifted from the areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad at 6.30 am, Additional Commissioner of Police Rajendra Singh told PTI.

Though normalcy is returning to the violence-hit areas, it is still gripped by tension, police sources said.

A municipal corporation bus was stoned at Bopadi chowk in the morning by unidentified persons, they said.

Ever since the eruption of the violence in Pune, many private shops and police chowkies were pelted with stones and private vehicles and those belonging to fire brigade and a number of municipal corporation buses were set ablaze.

In the over 55 incidents of violence reported in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, at least 143 vehicles belonging to both private and public parties were damaged.

Police arrested over 150 people in connection with the violence in the past two days, according to Police Commissioner D N Jadhav.
