The authorities in Nepal are planning a fresh trial against 'bikini killer' Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj even as the Supreme Court is set to decide the fate of the international criminal on November 4.
The jailed 'serial killer' will face another charge immediately after the Supreme Court pronounces its verdict on a appeal by Sobhraj against the lower court verdicts convicting him for the murder of an American national Connie Jo Bronzich in Nepal in 1975.
A division bench of Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Tap Bahadur Magar will pronounce its verdict on an appeal filed by the international criminal of Indian and Vietnamese origin on November 4.
Sobhraj, who preyed on Western tourists throughout South East Asia during the 70s, was arrested in Kathmandu from a casino of Hotel Yak and Yeti on September 20, 2003 and charged with the murder of two tourists and for violating immigration laws.
Sobhraj will face the trial on the charge of killing Canadian National Laurent Armond Carriere. The case is pending in the Bhaktapur district court for the last 32 years.
"He will face the case which is pending in the Bhaktapur district court," said senior superintendent of police Upendra Kanta Aryal, who is also the chief of crime branch of metropolitan police.
The police had then filed two separate cases against Sobhraj accusing him of killing Bronzich and Carriere in Kathmandu District Court and Bhaktapur district Court respectively.
"It is the general principle to initiate the next case which is pending in the court," Aryal was quoted as saying by The Himalayan Times online.
