Clearing all doubts about the ban on smoking in public places since October 2, the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said clubs also fall into the category of public places.
"Clubs also fall into the category of public places and therefore they have to enforce the rules relating to the ban on smoking in public places," the health ministry said in a statement in Delhi.
The statement further said restaurants or refreshment rooms within clubs are also public place as per the act.
However, if a restaurant attached to a club, has a seating capacity of 30 persons or more, then it may create a separate smoking area or space.
These smoking areas shall be used only for the purpose of smoking and no other services shall be allowed, it said.
The government has banned smoking in all public places from October 2 as part of its anti-tobacco campaign.
