Devotees immerse a Ganesh idol at Dadar chowpatty, Mumbai

After 10 days of celebrations, emotional Mumbaikars said goodbye to its favourite diety -- Lord Ganesha. Chants of ‘Pudhcya varshi lavkar yaa’ (Come back soon next year) filled the air.

Rediff.com brings you the grand immersion processions of some of its most famous Ganeshas -- Lalbaugcha Raja, Mumbaicha Raja from Ganesh Galli and the others. 

Amid chanting of 'Ganapati bappa morya', lakhs of devotees in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra bid adieu to Lord Ganesha as the ten-day festivity came to an end on Wednesday.

The Ganesh idol from Parel's Ganesh Galli, known famously as Mumbaicha Raja, starts his journey towards chowpatty

Security has been tightened in the city, as the police force is not taking any chances in the wake of terror alerts. Twenty-five thousand Mumbai police personnel along with the Railway Protection Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Rapid Action Force and Border Security Force troopers have been deployed as part of the massive security cover.

Last week, a number of devotees who had participated in the Ganesha immersion, had suffered injuries due to stingray bites at Girgaum Chowpatty. Following the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has deployed an ambulance at the Girgaum chowpatty. A cardiac van will also be posted there.
