The results of CNN-IBN and The Hindu poll conducted by Centre for the Study of Developing Societies projects the Bharatiya Janata Party to be single-largest party in Uttar Pradesh; a neck and neck tie between the BJP and the Congress in Rajasthan and a likely clean sweep for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, if elections were to be held today.  

The results of the poll show that it’s likely to be a neck and neck race between BJP and Congress in Rajasthan. Both the parties are likely to end up with 10-14 seats each in Rajasthan. When asked, 35 per cent people said that the BJP’s Vasundhara Raje government rated better than the present Congress government, while 29 per cent said otherwise.

While 31 per cent of the people said that the condition of the roads had improved, 35 per cent replied in the negative. Twenty four per cent of the respondents felt that the supply of water had improved in the state, 43 per cent said it had deteriorated.

The current Congress government’s report card projected that when it came to the condition of farmers, 18 per cent respondents felt that it had improved, while 42 per cent of them replied in the negative.

In the job sector, 21 per cent of the respondents said that the situation had improved, while 35 per cent said that it had gone down. Over all, the level of satisfaction with the Gehlot government was up to 65 per cent from the previous 58 per cent. Dissatisfaction was down to 23 per cent from 26 per cent.

Likely clean sweep for BJP in Madhya Pradesh

The results of the poll show it’s a likely clean sweep for BJP in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP is likely to get 21-25 seats in Madhya Pradesh while the Congress may end up with 2-6 seats. The BJP is likely to secure an estimated 50 per cent vote share in Madhya Pradesh while the Congress is likely to trail way behind with 32 per cent votes.

In what can be called a shot in the arm for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a whopping 75 per cent respondents felt that it is better that the previous Digvijaya Singh government.

Only 8 per cent respondents said that the Digvijaya Singh government was better. Even among the Congress supporters, 56 per cent said that Chouhan’s government was better, while only 21 per cent stuck with Digvijaya.

Satisfaction with the current government was up to 82 per cent from the previous 75 per cent – this was the highest among all states that were surveyed. When asked who would make a better prime minister, a surprising 49 per cent said Chouhan, while 28 per cent were with Modi.

SP likely to finish second in Uttar Pradesh

The seat projections in Uttar Pradesh show that the BJP is likely to emerge the leading party with 29-33 seats, around a three fold gain compared to its performance in 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

The Samajwadi Party is likely to come second with 17-21 seats while the Bahujan Samaj Party would be closely following with projected 14-18 seats. The Congress in UP is likely to finish fourth with 11-15 seats.

The poll shows that the BJP is likely to get an estimated vote share of 27 per cent, highest among all the parties. The SP is likely to 22 per cent of votes while the BSP will be trailing by a thin margin of 1 per cent with 21 per cent of votes. The Congress is likely to 16 per cent of votes.

A majority 51 per cent of the respondents felt that hooliganism was on the rise, while only 11 per cent of them said otherwise. Fourty-five per cent thought that the incidents of crime had increased in the state, while only 13 per cent said that it had declined. When asked, 32 per cent of the respondents said that cast related violence had increased, while 12 per cent thought it had declined.

As for Akhilesh himself, a whopping 53 per cent thought he should be replaced by his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.
