April 05, 2014 00:05 IST

Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is projected to bag 234-246 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, a survey conducted by CNN-IBN and CSDS said.

According to it, the tally of UPA is expected to go down and it is likely to get 111-123 seats.

BJP, which got 116 seats in the 2009 elections, is projected to improve its tally and is likely to secure 206-218 seats, it said, adding that Congress tally is likely to reduce from 206 in the last elections to 94-106.

The survey claimed that in terms of people's choice for the Prime Minister's post, Narendra Modi led the race with 44 per cent nationwide respondents preferring him.

Modi is followed by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who got the approval of 24 per cent people.

The first phase of the nine-stage polls will start on April 10 and counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 16.
