New twist in Sister Abhaya case

The Sister Abhaya case which has been an epicentre of controversy since day one has taken yet another interesting turn with the Central Bureau of Investigation submitting to the court that the narco-analysis CDs of the accused persons was not tampered with.

The CBI submitted this report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Ernakulam following a court directive that the ForensicSciences Experts in Bangalore be questioned as to whether the CDs were tampered with or not.

The order to question the experts was passed following an allegation by the defence counsel that the CDs had been edited which in turn was affecting the case of his clients.

Following the directive, the CBI conducted investigations for 6 days. Deputy Superintendent of Police , CBI, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Cochin Division, Nandkumar Nair who submitted the investigation report to the court said that the camera had been only the stage where the accused were in a trance had been recorded. The camera had been switched on and off and sometimes paused.

He further told the court that the team had confiscated the hard disc and computer from which the narco analysis reports were prepared.

He sought time from the court to examine the officials of the C-DIT at Thiruvananthapuram who had claimed that the CD had been edited and manipulated. We wanted to get a clarification from the C-DIT officials in the light of the explanation given by the officials of the Bangalore FSL, Nair said.
