Shahnaz Hussain seeks CBI probe into son's death

March 25, 2008 19:42 IST

Beauty expert Shahnaz Hussain on Tuesday sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the death of her son earlier this year after he fell from an apartment under 'mysterious' circumstances.

"My son was not suffering from depression and nor was he an alcoholic. He was a deeply religious person. I have requested the chief minister to entrust the case to the CBI," she told media persons after meeting Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Sameer (34) died on January 6 this year after falling from the balcony of a third-floor flat owned by his father-in-law Mahfooz Ahmed at Maqbool apartments on Exhibition Road in Patna.

Sameer was alone with his advocate father-in-law when the incident happened.

"My son came to Patna on December 7, 2007 and was perfect and handling his work in Delhi from here regularly. He was not allowed to talk to me during the period. I want to know what led to his death," Hussain said.

Asked whether she suspected involvement of Sameer's in-laws in his death, Hussain replied in the negative, but said, "As a mother I am entitled to know the reason of my son's death".

Rubbishing Patna police's statement made on the basis of information reportedly provided by Sameer's in-laws that he was on anti-depressant Alprax before his death, Hussain said, 'a day before his death my son spoke to our company's production manager about a consignment from Japan. There is no no reason to believe he was depressed'.

Hussain, who had collapsed and admitted to a Delhi hospital when the news of Sameer's death was broken to her, offered prayers at his grave in the city.

Denying that her relation with Sameer was strained, Hussain claimed he was on good terms with the family, including her and his wife Rabia.
