While lakhs of devotees throng the Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadeesh temples in Mathura, security agencies are maintaining an unprecedented cover over all temples celebrating Janmashtami on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion. A statement issued by the prime minister's office says - 'Lord Krishna's eternal message of karmayoga continues to guide humanity on the path to salvation. His divine personality represents the noble ideal of wisdom and excellence in all spheres of life'.

Dr Singh hoped 'that Janmashtami would usher in happiness, joy and peace for all and further strengthen the values of compassion, service and justice in the society'.
