SAD to follow NDA's decision on Presidential poll: Badal

June 16, 2012 20:18 IST
Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal said his party would abide by any decision taken by the National Democratic Alliance regarding the upcoming Presidential election.

As an NDA constituent, his party would support any decision taken by the alliance with regard to the Presidential election, he said. The CM said the SAD-BJP alliance had a shared approach on all issues "which goes beyond political expediency".

"The SAD-BJP combine in Punjab represents not just a political adjustment but a common approach to social cohesion, peace, communal harmony and Punjabi unity. "There is total understanding among the alliance partners on all issues," Badal said.

Badal described as "incorrect and misleading" media reports suggesting misunderstanding among the allies on posts of office-bearers in civic bodies. "There is no confusion anywhere and everything will be settled amicably between the partners," he said.

There was no rift between the allies regarding election of office-bearers in civic bodies, the CM said.

Civic polls in the state were held recently with the SAD-BJP combine tasting success. "The SAD has strong bonds with the BJP and the ties based on mutual trust are ever lasting," Badal said.
