Rs 4L relief for kin of NCC cadets who drowned in Kerala

The Delhi government on Thhursday announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of five National Cadet Corps from the city who drowned in the Periyar River in Kerala. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit condoled the death of the students.

"The government would release an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of diseased students," Dikshit said.

She had gone to the Palam Technical Area
to receive the bodies of the youths along with Defence Minister A K Antony and Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy.

The students were part of the National Trekking Camp of the NCC at Malayatoor, about 52 km from Kochi when tragedy struck them on Wednesday.

While two boys first slipped into the waters of Periyar river, as they were clicking photos of the picturesque spot, the three others jumped to help them.
