February 28, 2015 18:27 IST

Former The Energy and Resources Institute chief R K Pachauri, who is facing sexual harassment charges, has resigned from the prestigious Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change, which has been accepted.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the resignation of Dr R K Pachauri from the PM's Council on Climate Change,” a PMO statement said.

Pachauri, Director General of TERI, was a member of the Council since its inception in 2007 during the tenure of Manmohan Singh.

Modi had re-nominated him to the Council last year.

After the sexual harassment charges were levelled against him last week, Pachauri went on leave from TERI and quit Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
