Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday demanded apologies from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court that said to attend the second day of a state BJP party conclave.
"Merely withdrawing the affidavit is not enough. Nor is suspending two junior officers in the ASI," he said, attending a state BJP conference.
Referring to Mahatma Gandhi, Advani said the greatest leader in India at the time of independence had said that the best governance was Ram Rajya.
"Now the government was saying, that too under oath in an affidavit to the Supreme Court 'What is Ram, what is Rama Sethu? They say that Ram did not exist. They want proof for the existence of Lord Ram," Advani said.
Recalling the time when he took a rath yatra in the early 1990s, Advani said the government had asked for proof to show that Ayodhya was the birthplace of Ram.
"When I got a chance to meet the prime minister after I saw the news, I told him it was a matter of shame that the government was denying the existence of Ram. He immediately called the law minister and told him to withdraw the affidavit.
"But now, the Tamil Nadu government is adding to the problem. The ministers at the center and the state are hell bent on destroying the Rama Sethu. Why?
