President surveys TN's rain-hit areas

President A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday undertook a 90-minute aerial survey of Tamil Nadu's flood-affected areas of Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts.

TN Public Works Department Minister O Panneerselvam and others received the President, who arrived on Wednesday night.

Tiruchirapalli Mayor Charubala Thondaiman said the corporation had sought Rs 22.39 crore to repair the damage to roads, culverts, retaining walls etc, against the earlier demand for Rs 6.50 crore.
