On October 24, the administration had issued a similar warning, when the resevoir received record inflows of 2.24 lakh cusecs and discharged over 2 lakh cusecs.

Salem District Collector A Sukumaran told PTI that Mettur recorded a heavy rainfall of 9.2 cm and that nearby villages like Andigounderpatti and Madhaiyankuttai had been affected.

He said the government has allotted Rs 3 crore to take up relief work in areas battered by rains on October 24.

The Public Works Department, Highways Department and panchayat unions had been entrusted with the task of repairing roads, he said.
