The irrigation authorities on Monday said there was no threat of floods in River Krishna as the inflow at Prakasam Barrage had come down Monday morning following a decrease in outflow from Nagarjunasagar Dam.

Irrigation Superintending Engineer J Rajendra Prasad told UNI that inflow at the barrage had risen to 3.85 lakh cusecs Sunday night as a result of release of three lakh cusecs from Nagarjunasagar, and flow from catchment areas and rivulets like Munneru and Budameru.

The authorities had been alerted to issue first flood warning if outflow crossed 3.95 lakh cusecs. All the 70 crest gates at the barrage were lifted up to seven feet to facilitate release of flood water into the sea.

The water level is now at 11.4 feet, he added. Meanwhile, the overflowing river swanped a few low-lying areas, and families from Ramalingeswaranagar and Tarakarama Nagar were evacuated and shifted to three relief centres set up at Pandit Nehru Bus Station, Ramalingeswara Nagar Community Hall and Potti Sriramulu High School at Tarakarama Nagar.
