In countrywide raids, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday searched offices and residences of at least 50 government officials in 74 cities.
At the end of the day, it had registered 38 cases.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi in the evening, CBI Director U C Misra said simultaneous raids were conducted at 13 premises in Delhi, 24 in Mumbai, seven in Nashik, three in Patna, two in Hyderabad, 12 in Vishakhapatnam, three in Kochi, four in Chandigarh and one each in Karnal, Tuticorin, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Srinagar.
The raids which began in the early hours on Friday were continuing at the time when Misra spoke to the press.
"The officers whose houses have been raided belong to the central government health scheme, customs, insurance, provident fund organisation, central excise, Coal India Limited, BSNL, SAIL and government banks and other
organizations. One of the government officers raided is of the rank of commissioner," he said.
"Cash and valuables and securities worth over Rs 28 lakh have been seized and movable, immovable property and securities worth Rs 7.43 crore have been detected," Misra said.
Talking about the Telgi cases, Misra said that more then sixty case are currently being investigated. "This is the largest number of cases registered against an individual by the CBI," Misra said.
