An assistant sub-inspector of Punjab [ Images ] Police was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway late on Sunday night. According to television reports, ASI Gurdev Singh was shot as he signalled a car to stop on the highway.
Singh was in night patrolling duty when the incident took place.
The incident comes just two days after a Punjab police sub-inspector was thrashed to death by occupants of a truck who refused to clear a road for VIP movement.
