The death of an eight-year-old boy, who was injured in firing by security forces in south Kashmir's Harnag village on Saturday, triggered anti-India demonstrations across the Valley again on Thursday. The latest incident takes the civilian toll since June 11 to 59.
A senior police officer said eight-year old Milad Ahmad Dar, who was hit by a stray bullet during protests, succumbed to his injuries in the Soura medical institute today morning.
Attending doctors said Milad had been put on life support system after a brain surgery, but he could not be revived despite best efforts.
His body was handed over to his relatives by the authorities and later buried in a local graveyard in the village. Thousands of people joined the funeral of Milad, shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Hundreds of people staged a protest demonstration in Soura locality of Srinagar today afternoon.
The protestors, including women and children, were protesting the alleged CRPF atrocities in the area. They also demanded the removal of a bunker from near the local shrine.
The protestors indulged in stone pelting at the bunker, prompting the security forces to use tear smoke and baton charges initially. The forces later opened fire, injuring seven persons, three of them critically.
The critically injured persons including Habibullah Taploo, his daughter Sumeera and his daughter-in-law Fatima were immediately shifted to a nearby medical institute or treatment.
Doctors operated upon Sumeera who had sustained a bullet wound to her chest. The other two injured victims are also being treated in the hospital.
The locals have alleged that the trio was shot and injured after CRPF troopers forcibly entered Taploo's house situated some distance away from the bunker.
Authorities had imposed curfew and curfew-like-restrictions in capital Srinagar, north Kashmir's Sopore, Baramulla, Kupwara and Handwara towns and south Kashmir Anantnag, Pulwama, Bejibehara, Kulgam and Kakpora early today morning.
