Students blackened the face of a professor of the prestigious Wilson College here for allegedly misbehaving with a girl student and paraded him with a garland of slippers before handing him over to police.

Policemen followed the students as they marched with the professor, who was forced by National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists to wear a garland of chappals. The students later handed over the teacher to Gamdevi police station, where he is being questioned.

Shadaf Ali, an NSUI secretary, said, "Strict action must be taken against such people. He must be charged for attempted rape."

Other teachers of the college, however, came out in support of the professor, saying he was well-respected and had just two months to go before retirement.

The NSUI activists also prevented people from entering the college, where admissions are currently on.

The college administration decided to close the institution for three days and a notice board outside said "miscreants from the National Students Union of India" should be arrested.
