Preity returns from US, police may record statement on Monday

June 22, 2014 15:19 IST

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who has accused her ex-boyfriend and industrialist Ness Wadia of abuse and molestation, returned to Mumbai today from the United States and police are likely to record her statement in the next two days.

The 39-year-old actress, who had left India soon after filing a first information report against Wadia on June 12, arrived at ChhatrapatiShivajiInternationalAirport here this afternoon and refused to speak to the waiting media persons.

The police said they are likely to record her statement in connection with the case either tomorrow or on Tuesday. As she was not in India, police could not record her statement in the case.

"Since she has arrived here, her statement would be recorded either tomorrow or day after," said an official privy to the investigation. Preity had filed a police complaint on June 12 night alleging she was molested by Wadia, 44 at Wankhede stadium on May 30 when an IPL match was played between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings, a charge the industrialist has denied as "false and baseless".

The Mumbai police had Saturday recorded the statement of Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Sanjay Patel in connection with the case.    Meanwhile, police are also probing the threat calls received by the secretary of Ness' father, Nusli Wadia, allegedly from fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari.
