A section of students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University Monday held a black flag demonstration for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while he was addressing a gathering after unveiling a statue of independent India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The demonstrators were later dispersed by the police.
University union sources said the demonstration was against the United Progressive Alliance government's stand on the Iran nuclear issue with the International Atomic Energy Association along with its "anti-people economic policies".
However, a union office-bearer said the demonstration was confined to a "minor" section of the students as the union had decided against disturbing Dr Singh's visit.
The students had already held protests Sunday after which it was decided that the prime minister would be handed a memorandum on the issue when he arrives at the university. It had also been decided not to disturb Dr Singh's visit, he added.
"But certain section chose to go against the decision and held a demonstration," he said.
