Patna university teachers observed a token strike on Tuesday  to protest assault of former minister and teacher of the university Sanjay Paswan by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists.

Paswan, who is also Rashtriya Janata Dal national spokesperson, was attacked by the ABVP activists in the university campus on Monday in which his vehicle was damaged. He was also assaulted by ABVP activists and sustained injuries on his hand, head and spine.

The teachers observed the strike after the Patna University Teachers Association gave a call  for a token strike and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits by the police.

The police have lodged a complaint against five persons in this connection.

PUTA president M O Siddiqui submitted a memorandum to the university vice chancellor and urged the district authorities to  provide adequate safety and security measures for teachers and action against anti-social elements.

Paswan said his vehicle was surrounded by ABVP activists who broke the windows of the vehicle with banners and flags.

The RJD has also threatened to agitate over the attack on Paswan by the ABVP. Only last week, a senior RJD leader and Patna Water Board chairman Ashok Yadav was killed in a bomb attack in his office.
