FIR filed against Patna's Mayor

July 26, 2005 15:07 IST

A first information report was lodged against Patna Mayor Krishna Murari Yadav and three others in connection with  the killing of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and Patna Water Board Chairman Ashok Yadav.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police N H Khan said the FIR had been registered against Yadav, his son-in-law Sanjay Kumar, District Board Chairman Ravindra Yadav, and the chief engineer of the water board on the basis of a statement by Ashok Yadav's brother Ganesh Yadav.

Ashok Yadav was killed and five ward councillors of the Patna Municipal Corporation were also injured in a bomb attack in Patna on Monday.

In his FIR, Ganesh Yadav alleged that the Patna mayor was behind the conspiracy to eliminate his brother. He claimed that the mayor had hatched the conspiracy as his brother had exposed  the corruption in the Patna civic bodies. The contention between the Mayor and the Water Board chairman was an open secret, he said in his complaint.

Yadav is the second Rashtriya Janata Dal leader to be killed in Patna after President's rule was imposed in the state in March this year. The news of the attack on Yadav and his death sent shockwaves in several parts of his stronghold.

RJD workers and leaders, along with Ashok Yadav's supporters, staged violent protests against the killing late into the night on Monday.

Meanwhile, police said that raids were conducted and six suspects had been detained in this connection.
