On a day when the Central Bureau of Investigation raided former Telecom Minister A Raja's residences, the opposition heatover demand for a JPC probe in the 2G spectrum allocation scam shut Parliament for the 19th working day on Wednesday.
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned without transacting any significant business with the government and the opposition sticking to their respective stands on the JPC, which has become the bone of contention between rival sides.
It was trouble from the word go when both the Houses assembled for the day as opposition members stormed the well vociferously demanding "We want JPC".
They were countered by ruling Congress members who displayed placards "Don't denigrate PAC" and raised slogans like "We want PAC."
Raja's official residence, close to Parliament complex, was thronged by mediapersons as CBI sleuths conducted search operations inside.
In the Lok Sabha, some opposition members also displayed a newspaper report in which an MP had raised questions for Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata on the 2G spectrum allocation issue.
Immediately after Speaker Meira Kumar concluded reference to the Varanasi bomb explosion and deaths due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Opposition members trooped into the well demanding a JPC probe in the alleged scam.
Members belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Samajwadi Party and the Left parties kept raising slogans 'We want JPC' and the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.
When the House reassembled, similar scenes prevailed leading to its adjournment for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, as soon as Chairman Hamid Ansari took his seat, opposition members rushed into the well shouting "We want JPC."
Ansari took up the first listed question of the day and asked members not to display posters in the House. "No posters please," he appealed to the unrelenting members.
Minutes into the din, Ansari adjourned the House till noon. The Upper House was subsequently adjourned for the day minutes after noon as the uproar continued.
