Parliament attack case: Judgment on Wednesday

Special judge S N Dhingra is on Wednesday expected to give his judgment in the December 13 Parliament attack case, the investigation into which the Delhi police had completed in record time.

The judgment would decide the fate of the four accused, namely Mohammad Afzal, Shaukat Hussein Guru, his wife Navjot Sandhu alias Afsan Guru and S A R Geelani, suspended lecturer of Zakir Hussein college in Delhi.

Afzal and Shaukat Guru have been named as active militants of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, who aided and abetted the attack in which four terrorists managed to sneak into the complex housing Parliament and gunned down a number of security personnel before they were killed.

Navjot and Geelani have been booked for aiding and abetting the crime. All the four accused have been booked under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

Over one hundred witnesses were examined during the course of the five-month long trial.

In between, the prosecution had suffered a major setback when the Delhi high court disallowed the use of print outs of telephone records to be used as evidence against the accused.

"We hope our efforts would bear fruit. But we are keeping our fingers crossed. Let us wait for the judgment and then talk about it," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (special cell) Ashok Chand.
