A special POTA court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of Asghar Ali, the prime accused in the murder of former Gujarat home and revenue minister Haren Pandya.
POTA court judge Sonia Gokani rejected the plea after hearing the arguments of CBI special counsel J M Panchal and Asghar Ali's advocate Hashim Qureshi.
The CBI had arrested Asghar Ali, who allegedly shot dead Pandya at Law Garden on March 26, along with four others on April 16 from Andhra Pradesh.
The first hearing for his bail was held in the Sabarmati jail premises on September 5. The arguments, which were then conducted in the POTA court, had concluded on September 11. The court, however, had not fixed any date for delivering its verdict.
Qureshi had argued that the CBI had not filed a charge sheet in the stipulated time period of 90 days and had also sought extension for filing the same 'without application of mind and provisions of the anti-terror law'.
