Palestine President sacks govt, declares emergency

On Thursday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sacked Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, broke up the Hamas-Fatah coalition and, announcing a state of emergency, said he would form a new government.

According to reports, Abbas is considering early elections and may 'return to the people' when possible.

Abbas is believed to have already informed the US, Egypt and Jordan of his decision.
