Pak summons Indian deputy envoy over border firing

August 11, 2014 21:16 IST

Pakistan on Monday summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner and lodged a protest over “unprovoked firing” by Indian troops.

Deputy High Commissioner Gopal Baglay was summoned by the Pakistan Foreign Office and issued a demarche over firing across the Working Boundary in Sialkot sector on August 10-11, which resulted in one civilian casualty and injuries to three others.

“It was emphasised that such unfortunate incidents were taking place at a time when the leadership on both sides had expressed willingness to improve bilateral relations, which had paved the way for the foreign secretary-level talks to resume dialogue,” it said.

The FO also said it was the 54th incident of ceasefire violation by Indian troops since July this year.       The two countries have blamed each other for a string of cross border violations.
