BSF lodges strong protest with Pak Rangers over R-Day firing

January 27, 2010 17:32 IST

Lodging a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers over the border skirmishes on Republic Day, the Border Security Force on Wednesday said Pakistani forward posts were instrumental in facilitating infiltration into Indian territory and warned their counterparts of a strong reaction if such incidents continued.

At a flag meeting with Pakistan Rangers, the BSF raised the issue of firing by them to provide cover to infiltrating militants and its four forward posts involved in the firing and ceasefire violation on Tuesday, senior BSF officer told PTI.

The BSF gave all the details of weapons including RPGs, rockets and UMGs fired from across the border on the Indian posts and made it clear that such violations of border truce will not be tolerated and every action would spark a strong reaction, he said.

The sector commander (DIG) level flag meeting, which lasted 45 minutes, was held at Octerio Border Out Post (BoP) along the International Border in R S Pura sub-sector, he said.

One jawan was injured when Pakistani troops violated the border truce by resorting to unprovoked firing for several hours as BSF personnel foiled two infiltration bids in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
