Pak delegation for peace and trade arrives in India

Last updated on: August 22, 2012 19:58 IST

A 12-member delegation comprising Pakistani politicians and businessmen on Wednesday crossed over to India through the Wagah border.

"The delegation has arrived in India with a lot of hope," Senator Muhammed Jehangir Bader, leader of the House of Senators of Pakistan Peoples Party, said.

Pakistan has desired a good relationship with its neighbouring country so that both the nations can grow economically and work towards purging terrorism, he said.

The delegates are scheduled to hold meetings with Indian members of Parliament on improvement in relations and promotion of bilateral trade, and will participate in the fourth round of India-Pakistan Parliamentarians dialogue.

They will also visit Patna to meet the Muslim religious leadership and hold discussion over various sensitive issues related to both the nations, he said.

Another Senator Haji Muhammed Adeel said both the nations should liberalise their visa policies to promote cross-border exchange of people. Taliban outfits were creating differences on both sides, he said, adding that they were not only targeting Hindus in

Sindh province of Pakistan, but also the Muslim community.

The delegation, whose visit is significant in the backdrop of India's recent decision to allow investment from Pakistan, is expected to return to Lahore on August 26 via the Wagha land route.
