Pakistani security agencies have beefed-up security in and around the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where several high profile criminals including the seven Mumbai terror attack accused have been locked up.

Sources said the security was tightened after the jail authorities received intelligence inputs regarding threats of a possible terror attack on the prison aimed at releasing some of those high profile militants. Snipers with light machine guns have been deputed on the roof of the jail, which houses over 100 dreaded extremists besides 5000 other inmates.

Security guards have been provided with night vision goggles to keep a tight vigil on activities in and around the prison even during the night, The Nation

reports. An extra contingent of Rangers and Elite forces has also been deployed for the safety of the jail, besides several CCTV's have also been installed inside the jail campus.

Apart from the seven Mumbai attack accused including the Lashkar-e-Tayiba's operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the prison also houses terrorists associated with the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and the mastermind of the suicide attack on former President General Pervez Musharraf.
