Toddler death: Oz court adjourns case in less than 1 min

A court here has adjourned the hearing of the case of Gursewak Dhillon, accused in the death of toddler Gurshan Singh Channa, till June 29. The decision came after the prosecution sought extra time to prepare evidence against him. The hearing lasted less than a minute.

23-year-old Dhillon, a part-time taxi driver, did not apply for bail on a charge of manslaughter by criminal negligence. Wearing a white polo shirt, he sat quietly in the prisoners' dock during the brief appearance at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

He nodded when the magistrate asked if he understood the case was being adjourned and that he could apply for bail at any time, said media reports.

Dhillon has been accused of placing an unconscious Gurshan in the boot of his car and driving around for three hours before disposing off the body in a field five days ago.

Meanwhile, the police said they want to speak to a woman who reportedly drove Dhillon to a service station after he ran out of fuel while driving around with the body. "Homicide squad detectives want to find the woman who is believed to have assisted Dhillon on March 4," the Herald Sun reported.
