Opposition to move resolution against 'intolerance' in winter session

November 16, 2015 12:51 IST

In the run-up to Parliament’s winter session, Opposition parties have started a coordinated effort to debate the issue of ‘growing intolerance’ and ‘communalism’ and the passage of a resolution condemning such incidents.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Tariq Anwar on Monday said that all the Opposition parties are together in the fight against intolerance and will submit a notice for a debate on a resolution on intolerance.

"All the Opposition parties are together in this fight against intolerance. Our party will also give notice for a debate on intolerance. Our effort would be to discuss it properly and get an answer from the government. That’s why this issue will be raised in both the houses," he added.

National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairperson P L Punia said the country needs to fight against communalism and Parliament is the platform where such issues are brought into.

"Today, the country needs to fight against communalism. Parliament has been made so that issues can be brought into it. There are so many issues such as terrorism, price rise, communalism, reservations and the pending bills, all need to be resolved. The SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act should be passed in the Rajya Sabha," Punia added.

The winter session of Parliament will commence on November 26 and end on December 23.
