A total of 131 children have been reunited with their kin by Delhi police under a special operation started about six months back as the officials traced out the families of 11 more inmates of children’s homes.

Under the initiative, Operation Milap -- which was launched by Delhi police’s Crime Branch in December last year -- the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit checks various children homes in Delhi and scrutinises the records of such children whose details are either incomplete or sketchy.

Officials thereafter closely engage with such children to derive such information about their native place, etc. as would enable their families to be traced, said Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ravindra Yadav.

Talking about the latest group of 11 children to have benefited due to Operation Milap, Yadav said that their families were traced to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The eleven children, who are all in the age group 8-16 years, were sheltered at children's homes at Tis Hazari, Rohini and Jahangirpuri. They were reunited with their families through the Child Welfare Committee.

“Police in Delhi have been asked to screen and document all the children residing at shelter homes, railway platforms, bus stands, roads, religious places, etc. Their photographs are taken by police officials and documentation is undertaken to link them with their families,” the officer added as he explained the approach that has been adopted under Operation Milap.
