Interpol Secretary-General Dr Ronald Nobel on Friday said the 3rd International Conference on Fugitives had decided to ask member countries to request their respective governments to make laws that would give legal sanctity to red corner notices.
Addressing a joint press conference with P C Sharma, director, Central Bureau of Investigation, and Interpol Asia vice-president, Dr Nobel said they have agreed to work jointly in apprehending culprits wanted by the member nations.
"We have asked the member nations to make a national point of contact and also create anti-fugitive units where they are not already not in operation. We have asked the member countries to respond directly to each other rather then wait for intervention by Interpol. All countries who are part of Interpol must create a National Data Bank. They should deal with the requests from the member nations expeditiously " he said.
He refused to say anything against Pakistan, who is also member of Interpol, for not handing over to India gangster Dawood Ibrahim, who was declared an international terrorist by the US treasure department.
"No matter how hard you may try I would not say anything against member countries of Interpol," he said.
Sharma said that US government's initiative would help India. Dawood figures in the list of 20 most wanted men list handed over by India to Pakistan.
He said the Interpol has created offices to monitor cyber crimes.
He claimed that the Interpol's success rate has gone up by 100 per cent in the last few years.
