IB suspects Dawood fingered rival sniper

July 19, 2005 18:49 IST

Intelligence bureau has launched a special investigation against some of the officers of the Mumbai police who were involved in the arrest Vicky Malhotra, right-hand man of gangster Chotta Rajan, from New Delhi few days back.

Malhotra was travelling in the car of former chief of intelligence bureau when he was arrested.

"Information has certainly leaked at some place and we want to plug it," said an IB official, clearly upset with the arrest of Malhotra.

According to sources, the sleuths of the premier intelligence agency are now trying to figure out the motive of the officers who were involved in the arrest.

Malhotra was a key man and had been carrying out operations against Dawood Ibrahim. It seems that the Mumbai police officers were tipped about Malhotra's presence by Dawood himself, who knew how important it was to have his rival locked up.

"If the officers did their job in the course of their duty then it is a different thing but if they did that to protect Dawood then they are in big trouble," a former senior police official told rediff.com.
