January 06, 2013 00:02 IST
Even as security forces have mounted a vigil against the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam in the run up to Republic Day, one ULFA militant was killed and three others were arrested in two separate incidents in Tinsukia and Nalbari districts of Assam in the last 24 hours.

The police informed that one ULFA cadre identified as Debojit Duarah was killed following an encounter at a village in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam. They have ecovered a grenade and a weapon from the
slain militant. Few other ULFA ultras managed to flee the area.

Meanwhile, the Nalbari district police have apprehended three ULFA militants -- Mridul Hazarika, Samarjt Sharma and Illius Ali -- in a special operation aimed at preventing ULFA militants to create terror in the state.

According to intelligence inputs, the anti-talks faction of the ULFA would try to create disturbance in the state before Republic Day. The police and security forces have beefed up security all across the state.
