Obama critic Dinesh D'souza accused of affair

October 17, 2012 08:52 IST

The best selling author, firebrand conservative Christian and co-director of the highly successful and polemical docu drama, 2016: Obama's America, Dinesh D'Souza, is surely one of the most controversial writers and activists in America.

But none of the charges against D'Souza including racism and the support for Western imperialism have come to haunt him as the sex scandal. His alleged affair with a woman while still being married has not only been featured in the liberal media including The Washington Post but also conservative publications, some of which consider D'Souza's commitments wanting.

The scandal broke out just as 2016: Obama's America, which accused the President of fostering a socialist agenda and wanting to make America a low performing and non competitive country, was released on DVD and Blu-ray after having grossed a smashing $32 million in theaters.

D'Souza, who has been married to Dixie for 20 years  and has a daughter, left the Catholic church he was raised in while growing up in Mumbai to embrace more fundamental Christianity a few years after arriving in America for his college education about 30 years ago.

His recent books, articles and film against Obama have endeared him to firebrand Republicans including Newt Gingrich, former Speaker, and Rush Limburg, one of the most popular and influential radio talk show host.

Now, the evangelical college D'Souza heads in Manhattan has announced a review over a report he took a woman who is not his wife to an event  called Truth for a New Generation organised by a conservative Christian group in South Carolina last month.

D'Souza filed for a divorce, according to many published reports, after he was reportedly caught with the other woman.

The author and activist did not return calls to his college or home.  But he told a news agency he has been living 'in a state of separation' from his wife for about two years but denied sharing the hotel room with the other woman.

'Obviously, I wouldn't have introduced her as my fiancee if I thought we were doing anything improper,' he said, adding they have called off their engagement.

The King's College announced the review within hours of the conservative Christian newsmagazine WORLD reported event organisers had asked D'Souza about sharing a hotel room with a woman he introduced as his fiancée.

D'Souza filed for divorce from his wife, a few days after the conference, California court records show, per the WORLD.

D'Souza, a former policy analyst under President Ronald Reagan and a prolific author known most recently for his critical works on Obama including The Roots of Obama's Rage has also written articles and books extolling Christianity.

The King's College said in a statement, "While our board had been aware of some of these details, we were not aware of others."

As it continues its investigation and review and discussions with D'Souza, it said, "Be assured we take seriously our charge to teach a compelling worldview rooted in the Bible and expect all of our leaders to model Christian character and integrity in their public and private lives."
