September 03, 2011 19:17 IST

A 30-year-old Finnish woman was raped allegedly by a youth at a south Delhi guesthouse early on Saturday morning after he offered her a lift, police said.

The woman, who works in the capital, was raped allegedly by Elvis Mentanna, 25, who hails from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and currently resides in Mumbai with his parents.

Mentanna was arrested and a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) was registered against him, a senior police official said.

The victim had gone to a discotheque in a hotel in New Delhi area on Friday night after having food in a Greater Kailash restaurant where she met Mentanna, the official said.

"She had drinks at the discotheque and had danced with Mentanna. When she was leaving for home and was looking for a taxi, Mentanna offered to drop her home," the official said.

The accused allegedly took her to a guest house in Hauz Khas and allegedly raped her, the official said, adding he threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter to the police.

"He told her that he will stab her to death if she reported the matter," the official said.

However, she gathered courage and approached police following which she was taken to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.

Following the registration of the case, the official said Mentanna was traced and placed under arrest.
