October 04, 2014 11:32 IST

The dawn-to-dusk bandh called by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in protest against the conviction of J Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case disrupted normal life in Puducherry on Saturday.

Buses went off the roads while shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and cinema houses remained closed in the union territory as part of the bandh, police said.

Besides Puducherry, the bandh was observed in three other regions of the UnionTerritory - Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

Police pickets were posted in strength at all vantage and vulnerable points in and around Puducherry. Police said no untoward incident was reported from any part of the union territory so far.
