No problem in NC-Congress coalition: Abdullah

June 28, 2011 19:44 IST

Union Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday ruled out any problems with ally Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.

"There is no problem in the coalition," he told reporters while replying to questions in Jammu. Farooq dismissed the reported criticism of his son and Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's 'frequent' visits to Delhi by Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

"Omar Abdullah goes to Delhi whenever there is a meeting. He only goes to Delhi. Farooq Abdullah used to go all over the world. The state still ran. What is matter then? How does it matter?", he asked.

Digvijay Singh had said that some media reports suggested that Omar frequently visited Delhi to meet his family which he had requested him to avoid.

"However, I am informed today that in the last four months the chief minister has hardly visited New Delhi and most of the time his visits have been for official purposes and I also understand that his public contact has increased manifold. This is indeed very heartening to note for me," the Congress general secretary later said.

Farooq said, "Jammu and Kashmir has a vital role. The only state in India where a chief minister has not just national importance but international importance."

He said the Centre should help the state grow economically and ensure better prospects for the youth in Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir.

To a question, Farooq said he will take up with Madhya Pradesh chief minister the issue of reported difficulty being faced by Kashmiri students in admission process in Madhya Pradesh.

A new stadium would be completed in a period of 18 months and 'we will organise the IPL match here too', he said.
