9 killed, 48 injured as minibus falls into gorge in JK

Nine persons were killed and 48 others injured, seven of them critically, when an overloaded minibus skidded off the road and rolled into a gorge in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The minibus was on its way to Rajouri from Kandi belt when it skidded off the road and rolled into a water canal in Palma belt of the district on Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Sawagat Biswas told PTI.

Eight persons died on the spot, while another person succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, he said. The injured passengers were admitted to a nearby hospital from where seven critically injured were shifted to GMC hospital in Jammu.

The police and the army have rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident, two persons were killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Magiyar village in Kathua district late Monday night.

The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and the injured shifted to the district hospital, the police said.
