May 26, 2009 22:57 IST

National Democratic Front of Boroland chief Ranjan Daimary, prime accused in the October 30 Assam serial blasts case, had hatched the plan for the explosions three months earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation has said.

The CBI charge sheet, filed on Monday against 19 accused, said after the planning in July, NDFB cadres were detailed by Daimary to procure three used cars for the explosions here and the details were worked out on October 19. The blasts in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Bongaigaon claimed 88 lives. Two of the accused are women, the CBI said.

Jayanti Brahma carried timers for the blasts from NDFB's camp in Bangladesh while B Thorai brought the explosives for the Ganeshguri blasts in Guwahati, it said. The accused were charged for waging war against the country, possession of explosives and murder under various sections of the IPC, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act.

The first hearing will be on June 9. CBI sources said the charge sheet with evidences from 828 witnesses and 762 documents of post mortem reports, phone call details and confessional statements of those in detention was filed in the court of the Special Judicial Magistrate here so that five of the accused in detention are not granted bail. The 150-days time given by the court to the investigation agency to file the charge sheet against the accused, most of whom are absconding, will expire shortly.
