In an emotional letter to his daughters Sasha and Malia, United States president-elect Barack Obama has expressed regret for not spending enough time with them in the last two years and explained his reasons for running for president.

"I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realised that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours," he explained in the eloquent letter.

He is not the only father to do so. Closer home, former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru has immortalised his letters to daughter Indira in Letters from a Father to His Daughter, a collection of letters penned while he was incarcerated during the independence struggle.

The collection of 30 letters, written in the late 1920s to the 10-year-old Indira, explains the history of civilisations and the evolution of India till the modern age.

Similarly, have you ever wanted to say something to your children, teach them some crucial lessons of life or impart some difficult but essential truths? Do you want to explain something to them -- convey a piece of wisdom or a word of advice -- that you haven't had the time to spell out yet?

Rediff.com gives you, dear reader, an opportunity to jot down all those things that you have wanted to tell your children -- it can be about life, sports, nature, history -- just about anything. So go ahead, write down the thoughts that you have always wanted to share with your children and send them across to citizen.reporter@rediffmail.com. We will publish the best of the letters right here on rediff.com.
